September is Attendance Month

Now that we are beginning to settle into another successful school year, we would like to take a moment to remind families how important it is for their child to attend school every day. While we certainly understand the importance of staying home when you are sick, regular attendance is an important skill that will one day help your child graduate from college and keep a job. Research has consistently shown that absenteeism during middle school years directly correlates with the successful completion of high school.  Don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s guidance counselor for advice and suggestions on improving attendance. It may also be helpful for parents to use this attendance success plan with your child.

In other news, MMS 7th graders just completed Day One, a workshop designed to increase respectful behaviors.  If you haven’t already done so, please talk to your child about his/her thoughts and reactions to the program.  As we continue to plan for the year it is important to stay involved and to keep communication open with your child. Skyward login information was available at Open House last month and most parents are now able to monitor grades online.  If you have not received your login information, please contact the guidance office for assistance.  In the meantime, please share these study habits with your child and continue to encourage them as they start to take responsibility for their own academic success. We are eager to discover all the things that a new school year can bring and we look forward to working with all of you!
