MMS Girls Track Wins State Championship


The Martin Middle School Girls track team won their first state title in school history at the Rhode Island Middle School State Championship on May 19th. The girls squad also won the Eastern Division championship.

Makiah Denson, won the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, and was 4th in Long Jump. Esmeralda Ortega placed 2nd in the hurdles and 5th in the 200. The 4x100m relay also broke a state record with a time of 53.1. Denson, Ortega, Jazmya Harris, and Jamilet DeJesus were members of the relay team. Harris also placed 6th in the 100 while Chantel Reis placed 6th in the 800m and Aniya Ruffin placed 6th in the Shot Put.

Congratulations to Coaches Almeida and Tarasevich and all the members of the team for bringing pride to MMS!
