Dear MMS Families –

I hope that you are enjoying Veterans Day weekend. Thank you to the military veterans who have helped to keep or community and country safe. We honor your service.

Here are a few notices about things that are happening at Martin Middle School.

  • Report Cards will be distributed on Monday, Novemb er 13th. In the envelope, there will be a description of grading procedures and student achievement measures. If you have questions regarding grades, please contact your student’s teachers. In the coming weeks, information about honor roll will be communicated to students and parents.
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. As we have in the past few years, sign-ups took place using Sign-up Genius. If you were not able to book a time for a conference and would like to meet with a teacher or teaching team, contact the teacher via email (a directory is located on the www.martinwildcats.com website) or contact your child’s guidance counselor. Please remember that teachers will be meeting with parents who have signed up for a meeting slot. Please refer to the Sign-up Genius (also on the MMS web page) as slots do remain for some teachers.
Thursday, November 16th will be an early-release day for students in order to allow for a Parent-Teacher Conferences. Students will be dismissed at 11:15 and busses will leave from MMS at approximately 11:25.
  • Please join us in welcoming Mr. Ben Emond, who is filling in for Glen Salgueiro as a 6th grade social studies teacher in House A. As you likely know, Mr. Salgueiro has assumed the role of acting Assistant Principal.
  • On Tuesday, we held our first Mentoring period of the year. During our weekly Mentoring period (Tuesdays), mentor-teachers will meet with each student individually in order to look at the student’s progress toward meeting academic goals. Parents are encouraged to discuss SMART goals with their children and to login to Skyward frequently. More information about SMART goals and logging into Skyward can be found here
  • The MMS PTA serves as an important partner in our school community. This year the PTA is sponsoring a number of fundraising campaigns in an effort to pay for events like field trips and 8th Grade Honors Night. We encourage as many students and parents as possible to participate in these fundraising efforts. The first is PTA Paint Night. There will be two sessions: Friday, November 17th at 5:30 PM and Friday, December 8th at 7:00 PM. Come create a piece of art with friends with the help of an instructor. Click here for a flier. The second fundraiser is the Sky Zone Trampoline Park Gift Card campaign. For every gift card we sell, Sky Zone, the MMS PTA will receive a percentage. The holidays are coming and kids love Sky Zone. Buy a gift card to a fun place and support the PTA!
  • The MMS Student Council will be sponsoring Spirit Days on November 20 & 21. Monday, the 21st, will be ‘Twins Day’. Students and staff members will dress up identically to another member of our school community. On Tuesday, November 21, we will have a Pep Rally at which students will have an opportunity to participate in some fun contests like hoola-hooping, dance moves, and tug-o-war. There will be sign-ups for students at lunch. Each grade and staff will dress in a different color to show our spirit. 8th graders will wear blue shirts. 7th graders will wear white shirts. 6th graders will wear red (for Townie Pride).
  • Our Family Involvement Committee has planned a Gingerbread House event for December 14th (5:30-7:30). Families will be able to purchase and build a gingerbread house, drink hot cocoa, listen to holiday music and enjoy some seasonal cheer. Supplies will be limited, so we encourage families to sign up early. Keep an eye out for a flier soon.
  • December 7th will be School Picture Make-up Day.
  • This year is the 40th Anniversary of Martin Middle School. The 40th Anniversary Committee put together a Middle School Photo Contest in the display case outside the auditorium. Keep an eye out for a video on the MMS Facebook page.
  • And speaking of Facebook, if you haven’t had an opportunity to check out our Facebook page, you are missing out on a lot of valuable information and interesting posts. You can find the page at http://facebook.com/martinwildcats. Please ‘like’ and share posts. We want the world to know about the amazing work of our school community.
